Brian Calfano

Brian Calfano is an award-winning journalist, professor, documentary filmmaker, and author specializing in twentieth-century political issues and journalism's evolution. He is currently the scholar-in-residence for Latakoo, a company that provides video management solutions to major media organizations like NBC Universal, Nexstar, and Charter Spectrum. In addition to this role, he holds a courtesy appointment with the Department of Political Science at the University of North Texas.

His career in journalism has seen him take on numerous roles. He was an anchor and political show host for KSNT 27 News, covering political events in Kansas markets such as Topeka, Wichita, and Kansas City. He also served as a reporter and producer for Spectrum News 1 Ohio, working on several political and social issue series over four years. As a political analyst for the same network, he offered studio commentary during breaking political news stories.

Brian R Calfano has also made significant contributions in Springfield, Missouri, where he worked for KOLR10. His work included producing and hosting various programs, including a one-hour memorable celebration of Missouri’s bicentennial and a 16-part series about the U.S. Constitution. Additionally, he hosted the Morningline radio show on News Talk 560AM KWTO for seven years, conducting interviews with public officials and discussing political topics. He also served as a media panelist during congressional debates aired by KOLR10.

Brian’s documentary Al Primo & His Eyewitness Revolution has garnered widespread acclaim. The film, which examines the transformation of television news, has won numerous awards, including the 2024 Best Documentary at the Golden Nugget International Film Festival in London, and has been selected for distribution on PBS stations nationwide. He has also been recognized for his journalistic work, winning several awards and nominations, including EMMY nods for societal concerns and investigative reporting.

Brian has held leadership positions in academia, including serving as the head of the Department of Journalism at the University of Cincinnati. He has been instrumental in developing new initiatives, including a TV news studio and a documentary project encouraging collaboration between students and faculty. He has taught at various institutions, where he has also contributed to research and student advising.

Brian Calfano is also involved in charitable work, donating to organizations like the ASPCA and Doctors Without Borders. He was born in New Jersey, graduated from the University of North Texas, and is an ordained deacon in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
